Abstrak

This research investigates the translation of political terms in English news articles published on the Cabinet Secretariat of the Republic of Indonesia's website during January 2025. It aims to identify the political terms used, analyze the types of translation shifts applied based on Catford’s (1965) theory, and assess how these shifts impact the quality of translation in terms of acceptability, using Nababan’s (2012) framework. A qualitativedescriptive method is employed, utilizing content analysis and focus group discussions (FGDs) for data collection and validation. From 158 political terms found, the study reveals that the most frequent translation shift is the double shift, particularly the combination of structure and intra-system shifts. The acceptability assessment, conducted by qualified raters, indicates that 86% of the translations are acceptable, while the remaining are less or not acceptable due to structural, lexical, or cultural mismatches. The findings highlight the significant role of accurate shift application in ensuring culturally and contextually appropriate translations of political terms, offering valuable insights for translators, especially in government and political communication contexts.
