Abstrak

Translation exists as a process that facilitates the exchange of information between languages and has many aspects that are important for determining the success of the translation. One of these aspects is accuracy. This study aims to analyze the accuracy of the translation of attributive adjectives, according to Greenbaum and Quirk’s (1990) theory, contained in the novel Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban. This study also examines the effect of the Molina and Albir’s (2002) translation techniques applied to translate the attributive adjectives on their accuracy based on Nababan’s (2012) accuracy theory. This study is descriptive-qualitative, employing content analysis technique to collect data and Focus Group Discussion with two raters to assess the translation accuracy. The results indicate that there are two types of attributive adjectives: Single Attributive Adjective and Multiple Attributive Adjectives. The most widely used translation technique is modulation, with an accuracy score of 2.6. Furthermore, the final score of the attributive adjective translations is 2.5, indicating that the messages have been quite successfully transferred into the target language, but there are still distortions causing the translation is not completely accurate.

Keywords: attributive adjective; translation technique; translation accuracy; Harry Potter.
