Abstrak

This study aims to analyze the types of verb phrases, translation techniques, and readability levels in news texts on the official website of the Indonesian House of Representatives. Verb phrases are classified based on the theory of Alwi et al., while translation techniques are identified using the theory of Molina and Albir. The readability of the translations is analyzed based on Nababan et al.'s translation quality assessment model, involving focused group discussions (FGD) with readers who are accustomed to reading news texts in Indonesian and English. The method used was descriptive qualitative. The results showed that of the 88 verb phrase data, the most dominant type was the modificative verb phrase (61 data), followed by complex phrases (13), prepositional phrases (7), coordinative phrases (4), and attributive phrases (3). The most commonly used translation technique was literal translation (42%), followed by a combination of literal translation and modulation (27%), as well as other techniques such as transposition, reduction, and discursive creation. In terms of readability, 70 data points (80%) were categorized as readable, 12 data points (14%) as less readable, and 6 data points (7%) as unreadable. The average readability score was 2.72 on a scale of 3. These findings indicate that the dominant use of equivalent and modulation techniques is able to maintain readability, especially in conveying the meaning of verb phrases naturally and in accordance with the structure of the target language. Thus, readability in the translation of DPR RI news texts depends not only on linguistic aspects but also on the selection of techniques relevant to the formal context and communicative purpose.
