Analysis of Translation Techniques, Methods, and Ideologies on Mexican Cultural Terms in Animated Films

This research examines the techniques, methods, and ideologies of translating Mexican cultural terms in the Coco and The Book of Life films. Using Newmark's theory (1988), cultural terms from the films' subtitles were analyzed and categorized. Translation techniques were analyzed based on Molina and Albir's (2002) theory, methods were based on Newmark's (1988) theory, and ideologies on Venuti's (1995) theory. Results showed five categories of cultural terms, with social culture as the most dominant. Six translation techniques were used, with established equivalence being the most frequent. Communicative translation emerged as the dominant method, while domestication prevailed as the primary ideology. The translations focus on target language-oriented approaches, facilitating broader cultural understanding.
