Abstrak

This study aims to analyze the taxonomy of properties in adjective semantics for expressive illocutionary speech acts in the subtitles of Fleabag season 2 (2019), identify the translation techniques used, and evaluate the translation quality in terms of accuracy. Qualitative descriptive method is used in this research. A total of 100 expressive illocutionary speech act data were identified and classified into the taxonomy of properties according to Frawley's theory. The categories found include human propensity (61 data), physical property (21 data), value (12 data), possession (5 data), and age (1 data). The most frequently used adjective type is predicate adjectives (56 data), followed by descriptive adjectives (37 data). The most frequently used translation technique is literal translation (58 data), followed by established equivalent (36 data), while the least frequently used techniques are reduction and modulation (1 data each). The evaluation of translation accuracy shows that the translation results are at a less accurate level with an average score of 2.1. This study suggests that movie translators should increase their knowledge of the use of natural and common terms in the target language to improve translation quality.
