Abstrak

Song lyrics translation is a complex task that requires balancing meaning, rhythm, and cultural nuances. This research investigates the translation techniques and readability aspects of the translated lyrics from the “Reality Club Presents’…” album. The urgency of this study lies in understanding how different translation techniques impact the readability and fidelity of song lyrics. The study aims to identify and analyze the translation techniques used and evaluate the readability of the translated lyrics. Using Molina and Albir's (2002) framework, the research categorizes the translation techniques into single, double, and triple techniques. Data were collected from the translated lyrics of the album, available on Musixmatch, and analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis. The findings reveal that 30.7% of the translations employed single techniques, 66.2% used double techniques, and 2.9% utilized triple techniques. Among the data, the most commonly used were literal translation and reduction. Using Nababan et al. (2012) translation quality assessment theory, the readability assessment showed that 76.9% of the translated lyrics were rated as readable, while 23.0% were rated as less readable, and there is no translated lyrics deemed unreadable. Furthermore, the double translation technique appeared to be the most frequently variant of technique and the most successful in producing readable texts, comprising 52.6%. However, single translation techniques are also effective, especially in producing readable texts comprising 22.4% but not as successful as double translation techniques. The triple translation technique was rarely used and did not have a significant impact on readability comprising 1.78%. The absence of unreadable sentences in the translated texts reflects the translator's success in maintaining readability, demonstrating the positive effects of using appropriate translation techniques. This research contributes to the field of translation studies by providing insights into the practical application of translation techniques in song lyrics and highlighting the challenges of maintaining readability and fidelity to the original text.
