Abstrak

This study examines the functions of imperative sentences in the subtitles of The Dark Knight (2008) movie on the Catchplay+ streaming platform, using Swan's (2016) theory. The study aims to analyse the function of imperative sentences, identify translation technique, and assess translation quality. A qualitative method with a descriptive approach was applied, using content analysis and focus group discussions (FGD) as data collection techniques. The result shows 173 data imperative sentences in the subtitles of The Dark Knight (2008) movie. These sentences serve six functions: Command, Request, Instruction or Direction, Invitation, Warning or Prohibition, and Express Wishes. The most frequent function is Command, with 104 data (60.1%). The most commonly used translation technique is Literal Translation, with 52 data (30.1%). The overall translation quality is rated at 2.9, indicating acceptable translations.
