Abstrak

Since English and Indonesian have distinct noun phrase structures, translating noun phrases is a fascinating linguistic phenomenon. This research aims to define the structure of the noun phrase for the subtitle of Everything Everywhere All at Once, analyze the translation technique used, and assess the translation quality. The theory used in this research are Jackson’s theory in structure of noun phrase, Molina and Albir theory in translation technique, and Nababan’s theory in translation quality. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. The classification of the structure of noun phrases found included pre-modification, post-modification, and pre-modification + post-modification. This study shows that the dominant structure used for noun phrases is pre-modification in noun phrases, which is 138 out of 158 data accounting for 87.3%. This type of modifier is most frequently found because this is the simplest structure primarily found in daily conversation. The technique used consisted of established equivalent, literal translation, reduction, amplification, borrowing, linguistic compression, transposition, particularization, adaptation, compensation, generalization, discursive creation, and modulation. The dominant translation technique is the established equivalent, which is as many as 72 out of 158 data (45.6%) because this translation technique allows for consistency in terminology and style throughout the translation, which helps to create a final sentence that is polished and coherent. The results of the translation quality assessment indicate that the scores gained for each aspect are different. The accuracy aspect gained 2.60, the acceptability aspect gained 2.58, and the readability aspect gained 2.58. This score means that the translated output is considered accurate, acceptable, and readable.
