ANALYSIS OF TRANSLATION TECHNIQUE AND QUALITY OF SWEAR WORDS IN ENGLISH TO INDONESIAN FROM KOREAN DRAMA ‘TAXI DRIVER SEASON 1’)

This study aims to (1) identify and classify the types of swear words in subtitles of the Korean Drama “Taxi Driver Season 1” according to the theory of Pinker (2007), (2) identify the translation techniques used in subtitles of the Korean Drama “Taxi Driver Season 1” according to Molina and Albir (2002), (3) describe the translation quality of the swear words in aspects of accuracy and acceptability in subtitles of the Korean Drama “Taxi Driver Season 1”. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative, with the research results showing that there are 159 data types of swear words classified into five types of offensive words. The data has dominated by Swearing with 103 data (65%), Dysphemism with 35 data (22%), Averment with 10 data (6%), Idiomatic with 7 data (4%), and Cathartic with 4 data (3%). This study found 11 translation techniques: adaptation, amplification, borrowing, discursive creation, established equivalents, generalization, linguistic compression, literal translation, modulation, reduction, and transposition. The most dominant translation technique is established equivalent with 63 data (40%). The assessment of the types of swear words translation quality carried out according to Nababan et al. (2012) has an average accuracy score of 2.58 and an average acceptability score of 2.64. The result of the types of swear words translation quality in the subtitle of the Korean Drama “Taxi Driver Season 1”. from the two aspects as a whole is 2.60, indicating that the translation result is accurate and acceptable.
