Abstrak
Amidst the stock investment trend sweeping Indonesia, there has been an increase in the number of investors dominated by the millennial generation. This generation is known as an active group in stock investment. This study aims to understand the increasing trend of stock investment among millennials and see the important role of mental budgeting in their investment decision-making. A quantitative approach was used in this research, with a desk study method and the use of a questionnaire to a sample of millennials involved in equity investment. The questionnaire included questions on demographic profiles as well as indicators of mental budgeting, including time orientation, income allocation, hedonic editing and risk protection. The results show that time orientation and hedonic editing have no significant effect on millennials' stock investment decisions. This generation tends to invest without regard to time and the hedonic characteristics of the millennial generation cannot be avoided in stock investment. However, income allocation and risk protection show a significant influence on millennial generation stock investment decisions. These indicators in mental budgeting help millennials to invest more efficiently. In this context, a deeper understanding of millennials' mental budgeting can pave the way to sustainable stock investment success.
