Abstrak
This study analyzes conceptual metaphors in selected LANY song lyrics and examines how they are translated into Indonesian in terms of translation techniques and translation shifts. The data consist of 65 metaphorical expressions drawn from LANY's six studio albums, with Indonesian translations sourced from the Musixmatch platform. This study employs Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT) by Lakoff and Johnson (2003) to classify metaphor types, translation techniques by
Molina and Albir (2002), and translation shift theory by Catford (1965). A qualitative descriptive method was applied using document analysis, domain analysis, taxonomy analysis, componential analysis, and cultural theme analysis.
The findings reveal that Structural Metaphor is the most dominant type (30 data; 46.2%), followed by Ontological Metaphor (25 data; 38.5%) and Orientational Metaphor (10 data; 15.4%). Literal Translation is the most frequently applied
technique (50.8%), followed by Modulation (30.8%). Structure Shift is the most dominant translation shift (63.8%), followed by Class Shift (18.46%). The componential analysis further shows that Literal Translation tends to co-occur with Structure Shift across all metaphor types, indicating that while metaphorical meaning can often be preserved directly, grammatical restructuring remains necessary due to typological differences between English and Indonesian. These findings affirm that translating conceptual metaphors in lyrical texts requires not only linguistic accuracy but also sensitivity to the emotional and cultural dimensions underlying metaphorical language.
