AN ANALYSIS OF FOOTBALL IDIOMATIC EXPRESSIONS AND TRANSLATION QUALITY IN INSTAGRAM CAPTIONS OF @433’S ACCOUNT

This study analyzes the quality of translations of football idioms in the Instagram captions of the @433 account. The research method used is qualitative descriptive, employing content analysis and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). The classification of idiom types refers to Fernando’s theory (1996), while the assessment of translation quality refers to the theory of Nababan et al. (2012). The results show that out of 100 idiom data found, the most dominant category was semi-idioms (58%), followed by literal idioms (31%) and pure idioms (11%). The translation quality evaluation resulted in an
average accuracy score of 2.51 and a readability score of 2.4 on a scale of 3. These results show that most of the translations were able to convey the meaning of the idiomatic expressions quite accurately and were easily understood by
Indonesian readers. However, some data still showed distortions in meaning, the use of inappropriate football terminology, and unnatural translation structures. In conclusion, most of the translations of football idiomatic expressions in the captions of @433 Instagram account have relatively good translation quality in terms of accuracy and readability, although some shortcomings were still found in the translation of some idiomatic expressions.
