Abstrak

This study aims to analyze the subtitling strategies used and the translation quality in the aspect of acceptability score in the anger expression subtitle of Netflix Series Bridgerton Season 1 and 2 series. Three main theoretical frameworks adopted in this study are: Spielberger (1999) theory on anger expressions, Henrik Gottlieb’s (1992) theory on subtitling strategies, and Nababan et Al’s (2012) theory on translation quality assessment. Data were collected by content analysis method and validated by two raters by interview. The writer found 107 data of anger expression with anger-out type in Bridgerton Season 1 and 2. The data analysis result shows that seven subtitling strategies were applied; transfer, paraphrase, condensation, deletion, expansion, imitation, and decimation. The result of translation quality assessment in the aspect of acceptability is considered as less acceptable with a score of 2,4. In conclusion, the anger expressions subtitle with anger-out type in the Netflix Series Bridgerton Season 1 and 2 were translated using seven subtitling strategies, with overall acceptability score of less acceptable.
