ANALYSIS OF TRANSLATION TECHNIQUES AND QUALITY OF SONG LINES OF THE "ENCANTO" SOUNDTRACK DUBBING

This research investigates the techniques and quality of song translation, with a
specific focus on the dubbing of songs in the movie "Encanto." Utilizing a
descriptive qualitative method, the study analyzes how song translation conveys
narratives, stories, and emotions through lyrics. The research identifies various
linguistic units within the songs, including words, noun phrases, verb phrases,
adjective phrases, adverbial phrases, and sentences, with sentences being
predominant due to their conversational nature. Based Lafevere's translation, there are seven techniques such as phonemic translation, literal translation, metrical translation, verse into prose translation, blank verse translation, rhymed translation and interpretation. From the study finds that metrical translation is the most frequently used method, followed by interpretation. Data collection involved content analysis and Focus Group Discussions (FGD). The quality of translation is assessed using Nababan's theory, revealing an average score of 2.53. While accuracy is rated as "quite not good" due to some translation errors, readability and acceptability are rated as excellent. Recommendations for future research include analyzing word usage and the impact of song dubbing, comparing subtitling and dubbing techniques, and exploring translations of poetry and song lyrics in various contexts. Translators are advised to choose appropriate strategies based on the text type to improve accuracy, effectiveness, and overall translation quality.
