Analysis of Translation Technique and Accuracy of Figurative Language on Laut Bercerita

The purpose of this study is to identify figurative language styles and identify translation techniques used in the novel Laut Bercerita using the theory of Molina and Albir (2002). In addition, this study will explain the accuracy of figurative language translation found based on the theory of Nababan et al (2012). The data of this study consists of 72 data consisting of 7 types of figurative language. The most common figurative language found are metaphor as much as 24 data (33%), personification as much as 12 data (16%), simile as much as 11 data (15%), hyperbole 9 data (12%), euphemism as much as 7 data (9%), paradox as much as 6 data (8%), and irony as much as 3 data (4%). The results of this study found that the dominant translation techniques used were amplification 36 times and reduction 24 times. This is because the translator reduces the meaning of the source language words or phrases that contain figurative language and adds words to enhance the meaning to be easily understood in the target language. The result of the translation accuracy assessment conducted by FGD by the translator's raters is less accurate with an average score of 2.5.
