Abstrak

This study employs a qualitative descriptive method with the aim of identifying types of noun phrases in the children’s storybook “Antologi Cerita Anak ASEAN”, published by Agency for Language Development and Cultivation in 2023. Additionally, this research analyzes the translation techniques used and evaluates the quality of the translation of these noun phrases. The classification of noun phrase types is based on Widjono’s (2005) theory, and the analysis of translation techniques refers to Molina and Albir’s (2002) theory, which includes 18 translation techniques. The quality of the translation is assessed in terms of accuracy and readability through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with raters, using the translation quality parameters proposed by Nababan et al. (2012). Based on the analysis using the Spradley (1980) model, 100 noun phrase data were found in this book, categorized into three types of noun phrases: 70 data of modificative noun phrases, 26 data of coordinative noun phrases, and 4 data of appositive noun phrases. Eleven types of translation techniques were used, including established equivalent, calque, amplification, literal translation, reduction, generalization, transposition, pure borrowing, modulation, particularization and discursive creation. The dominant translation technique is established equivalent (41 data or 41%). The quality of noun phrase translations in this book is considered accurate and easy to understand, with an overall translation quality score of 2.87, comprising an accuracy score of 2.86 and a readability score of 2.93.
