Abstrak
This research aims to identify the types of verb phrases in illocutionary speech acts found in The Last of Us series, analyse the translation techniques used, and assess the translations level of accuracy the with a focus on verb phrases. This study research discusses translation technique of verb phrases in illocutionary speech acts and accuracy. The theory uses in this research are Molina and Albir theory in translation technique, Widjono‘s Theory in verb phrase, Austin’s theory in illocutionary speech acts, and Nababan’s theory in translation accuracy. This research is qualitative descriptive research. Focus Group Discussion (FGD) used to collect data which then are being analysed by Spradley’s theory. The primary data sources in this study were obtained from English subtitles and Indonesian subtitles, data analysis of translation techniques, and the results of translation quality assessments by raters. Meanwhile, secondary data were obtained from previous research findings, expert studies, and web articles. The research findings indicate that there are three types of verb phrases, namely modificative, coordinative, and appositive. The result of this research found 3 types of verb phrase which are modificative (70.0%), coordinative (28.5%), and appositive (0.7%). There were 7 translation technique used in the subtitle series which are established equivalent (42.8%), literal translation (42.8%), linguistic amplification (3.5%), linguistic compression (4.2%), reduction (3.5%), modulation (0.7%), and transposition (2.1%). The FGD results show that the translation of the verb phrase in this series is less accurate with the score of 2,6.
