Abstrak

This study examines the types of noun phrases, category shifts, and translation quality in terms of accuracy and acceptability of the instructional clue texts from English to Indonesian in the mobile game That's My Seat. By applying a descriptive qualitative method, this study aims to identify and classify the types of noun phrases based on Quirk et al.'s (1985) theory, describe the category shifts occurring within those noun phrases based on Catford's (1965) theory, and assess how those shifts affect translation accuracy and acceptability based on Nababan et al.'s (2012) translation quality assessment model. Data were collected through content analysis and a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with two raters who have professional experience in translation and game localization. Following data collection, 88 noun phrases are identified from 111 declarative sentences across levels 41 to 51. The results demonstrate that the major type of noun phrase found is premodifier noun phrase with 81 data (92.0%), followed by pre and postmodifier noun phrase with 4 data (4.5%) and postmodifier noun phrase with 3 data (3.4%). A total of 180 shift instances are identified, with structure shift being the most dominant at 80 instances (43.7%), followed by intra-system shift with 79 instances (43.2%), unit shift with 17 instances (10.4%), and class shift with 4 instances (2.2%). The translation quality assessment yields an average accuracy score of 2.68 and an average acceptability score of 2.59, indicating that the translation is generally accurate but less consistently acceptable. Such results indicate that structure shift and intra-system shift are obligatory adjustments that generally preserve translation quality, while class shift and the literal rendering of idiomatic expressions pose the greatest challenges to both accuracy and acceptability in the context of English-to-Indonesian game localization
