Abstrak

This study analyzes colloquial expressions, translation techniques, and readability in the Indonesian subtitle of the film Sinners (2025). This research applied a descriptive qualitative method. The data of this study consisted of 110 colloquial expressions collected from the movie subtitles. The theory of colloquial expressions proposed by Partridge (1990) was used to classify the expressions, while the translation techniques were analyzed using the theory of Molina and Albir (2002). The readability assessment employed the readability instrument proposed by Nababan et al. (2012) and involved two raters consisting of one expert and one non- expert rater. The findings show that there were five types of colloquial expressions found in the film, namely contractions (53 data), phrasal verbs (37 data), single words (18 data), clipped words (1 datum), and short picturesque words (1 datum). In terms of translation techniques, variation was the most dominant technique with 35 data, followed by transposition with 22 data and adaptation with 17 data. The readability assessment revealed an average score of 2.96, indicating that the Indonesian subtitles were generally categorized as readable. The findings also demonstrate that the use of appropriate translation techniques contributed to producing translations that were easier for Indonesian audiences to understand.
