Abstrak
This study aims to analyze the illocutionary force of imperatives, the subtitling strategies, and the translation accuracy of imperative utterances and its English subtitles in Devina Hermawan's YouTube videos. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method. The data consisted of 108 imperative utterances collected from five selected videos in the Indonesian Cuisine playlist. The data were analyzed using Quirk et al. 's (1985) theory of the illocutionary force of imperatives, Gottlieb's (1992) subtitling strategies, and Nababan et al.'s (2012) translation accuracy assessment. The findings reveal three categories of illocutionary force of imperatives, namely Instruction with 79 data, Advice/Recommendation with 24 data, and Suggestion with 5 data. The analysis also identifies six single strategies and five combinations of subtitling strategies, with Paraphrase being the most frequently used strategy, followed by Transfer. Regarding translation accuracy, 100 data are categorized as Accurate, 7 as Less Accurate, and 1 as Inaccurate, resulting in an average accuracy score of 2.9. These findings indicate that the English subtitles generally preserve the intended meaning and communicative function of the source utterances, while the dominance of Instruction reflects the procedural characteristics of cooking tutorial videos and the predominance of Paraphrase demonstrates the translator's effort to produce natural and comprehensible subtitles for international audiences.
