Abstrak

This study analyzes figurative language, translation techniques, and acceptability in the Indonesian subtitle of Genshin Impact. This research applied a descriptive qualitative method. The data of this study consisted of 100 figurative language expressions collected from the game dialogues and subtitles. The theory of figurative language proposed by Kennedy (1983) was used to classify the expressions, while the translation techniques were analyzed using the theory of Molina and Albir (2002). The acceptability assessment employed the translation quality instrument proposed by Nababan et al. (2012) and involved two professional translators as raters. The findings show that there were nine types of figurative language found in the game, namely metaphor (23 data), hyperbole (19 data), personification (15 data), simile (12 data), irony (10 data), symbol (8 data), metonymy (6 data), synecdoche (4 data), and allegory (3 data). In terms of translation techniques, literal translation was the most dominant technique with 71 data, followed by established equivalent with 21 data and modulation with 5 data. The acceptability assessment revealed an average score of 2.72, indicating that the Indonesian subtitles were generally categorized as acceptable. The findings also demonstrate that the use of appropriate translation techniques contributed to producing translations that were natural and acceptable for Indonesian audiences.
