ANALYSIS OF TRANSLATION TECHNIQUES AND QUALITY IN THE TRANSLATION OF TECHNICAL TERMS IN THE ANNUAL REPORTS OF PT DAYAMITRA TELEKOMUNIKASI TBK

This study aims to analyze the types of technical terms in the Indonesian and English versions of PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi Tbk’s annual reports, focusing on translation techniques and their impact on translation accuracy and acceptability. The data were collected from annual reports for the period 2022-2024 on the company’s official website. A total of 102 technical terms were analyzed based on Cabré (1999) classification of technical terms. The translation techniques were identified using Molina and Albir (2002) framework, while translation quality was assessed using Nababan et al. (2012) parameter, which focuses on accuracy and acceptability. The assessment was conducted through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) involving expert raters. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The findings show that compound terms were the most dominant type (78.43%), followed by acronyms (11.76%) and simple terms (9.80%). In terms of translation techniques, established equivalent was the most frequently applied technique (45.60%), followed by pure borrowing (25.60%), transposition (9.60%), modulation (5.60%), amplification (4.00%), particularization (4.00%), reduction (3.20%), naturalized borrowing (0.80%), calque (0.80%), and literal translation (0.80%). The results further indicate that the choice of translation technique influences translation quality. The average accuracy score was 2.96, while the average acceptability score was 2.94, suggesting that the translated technical terms were highly accurate and acceptable. These findings highlight the important role of translation techniques in preserving both the meaning and naturalness of technical terms in bilingual corporate documents. This study contributes to translation studies by providing insights into the translation of technical terminology and its relationship with translation quality in annual reports within the telecommunications infrastructure sector.
