Abstrak
PT Badak NGL is a company engaged in the processing of natural gas into LNG through a series of purification and liquefaction stages. One critical stage is the acid gas removal
process using an amine solution (aMDEA). In the amine regeneration service piping system, specifically at the elbows of pipes H1-K24-24-BM8B and H1-K24-30-BM4B connecting the amine regenerator and amine regenerator reboiler, a leakage incident occurred that had not previously been observed. This study aims to identify the damage mechanism responsible for the leakage and to formulate appropriate mitigation strategies. The research uses a qualitative case study approach, with Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) as the
primary analytical tool, referring to the API RP 571 standard. Data were obtained through field observation, interviews, literature review, and operational data collection. The results
indicate that the main damage mechanism causing the leakage is Amine Stress Corrosion Cracking (Amine SCC), triggered by a combination of decreased amine quality (strength amine), accumulation of impurities, thermal cycling during start-up and shutdown operations, and stress concentration in the elbow area. The recommended mitigation strategies include routine amine quality control, management of thermal cycling, and implementation of periodic inspections using Risk-Based Inspection (RBI).
